Harris.
Hey guys, has anyone used these how do they go for a internal filter? Any advise on them would be much appreciated Cheers Sean.
DVS969
They work well but use to much power for what they are imo.
Harris.
They work well but use to much power for what they are imo. In that case ill get 2 of the 800 ones they're 8w the 1200 is 32w
DVS969
I've always had good experience with the Aqua One filters, the 103F does 1200l/hr and uses 15 watts, They keep my tank clean and are easy to take apart and clean, They ain't a beauty pageant winner but I don't think they look that bad. Aqua One Maxi 103F Internal Filter Redlands Pet Center will probably match the price if they aren't already cheaper to begin with, HTH

~Col~
+1 to Juzz. I've been using one in my big tank for 12 months now and it works great!
DeadFishFloating
always found the aquaone f series to be absolute pains to clean, and have a habit of getting noisy over time. love the otto's they just dont die the only bad thing about the otto is it looks like a tota and tota very happily die. anyway the otto powerheads get my approval quality merch easy to clean too which is important because no matter the powerhead you get you are gonna be cleaning it reguarly cleaning an aquaone 104f is enough to give ya flashbacks to cleaning an M60GPMG I mean for two tiny bits of foam and a pump do you really need 40 seperate bits of sharp plastic to house them? I can clean 5 ottos in the time it takes to injure yourself on a 104f. just saying..... Edited May 27, 2012 by DeadFishFloating
Harris.
Yea I had a aqua one 104f on my first tank for awhile before I got a canister , I found them a pain in the ass some times , going to get a Otto for add on filtration and media , ima filtrationholic lol
clipper
Used otto for the last 10 years, only had 3 die when i run 15 at a time all the time. Fantastic filters, easy 2 clean, easy 2 service and do one hell of a job pushing water around. I recc the 1800 or 2200 for power use to actual filtration. DVS969
Can't say I have ever injured myself on one Donny, You might need to get your Mum to help next time Im all about using as little power as possible so Im happy to take a little extra time to clean a filter that is half the wattage. I have a 102F that is still running after about 6 or so years so the reliability is there.
DeadFishFloating
Once the plastic boxes the sponges go inside get a bit used, they have a tendency to stick, which makes it hard to get them in without pinching/cutting yaself. have cleaned probably 100 examples of the f series, and done so thousands of times over the years. Its like having to use windows 95 on a work computer you do it because you have to but theres no way you would put up with that sort of thing in your own house! the 101f and 102f are slightly different design just as ugly but less bits and less fiddly to service still have the same suction caps always pull off problem tho. The real deal breaker is just how much actual sponge is in the filters to trap **** and grow bacteria the aquaone f series has such tiny chunks of sponge and the otto has such a good amount more sponge = more efficient = better filtration = more time between cleans. to each their own but I think the otto is in a higher class than the aquaone 101/102/103/104 f series
DVS969
Haha, Hey some peeps have trouble with simple things. But each to their own like you say. Higher class but higher price and power consumption too. Im a sucker for lower wattage, Oh la la. You had much to do with the Eheim 2010 Pick Up Filters Donny? Thinking bout givin one a go for my Discus tank. Edited May 28, 2012 by DVS969
DeadFishFloating
pickups are another good example of lots of sponge, and just enough plastic to hold it and a pump. they are well designed and built. A bit more expensive than the otto and dont come in large models with lots of grunt BUT for a discus tank, they are great. Reliable gentle filtration that is optimized for "contact time" of water to media, meaning one pass through is all thats needed to remove all ammonia and nitrite. floppingflamingos
I have pickups in three different tanks, purely because I love how easy it is to clean the impellers.
DVS969
I actually bought one of the Serenity filters from you the other day Ben (Before I got banned ) Very happy with how good the flow is and is keeping the tank nice and clean, Do they do any bigger sizes at all? It's not like the description though (Which I was happier about anyway) It just has one piece of coarse foam in the cartridge. Not bad wattage and cheap as chips. No worries Russ, I don't mind recommending good shops
