phillbo7
Hey bud I have an 800L tang tank with a 4ft sump. I am running one of the cheap pumps off eBay $100 it does 4500lph. It great because it has a current flow through the tank also. Just depends on the size of your sump but u always look for 4-5 cycles per hour. Adro1
its 800L total including the sump. im looking at the 7500lph pumps at the moment. does it matter if its more like 9-10 cycles per hour?
bazz
if possible mate plumb a ball valve in and you can always adjust the flow rate to whatever suits you tanks needs. I used to have one and it was great.
Adro1
so im having an idea and i would like some others input. the sump generally takes care of the water but ive noticed in my 5 footer catty tank i still get a slight build up of waste on the floor. first of all, can you use an under gravel filter with fine sand ? if so if i was to hook a canister filter intake pipe to the top of the UGF out pipe would i get the same affect but stronger as the flow rate would be sucking the water through stronger.??? bazz
If your talking about poo etc on the tank floor here is what I found helps. Increase flow rate in the tank (if possible with sump pump) and it should stay in suspension until it is removed via the filtration. If the waste is gathering in one area, which is generally the case if you have adequate water flow then simply suck it out when you do your weekly water change. adding an UGF isnt very practical in your situation, I think the sand will be to fine for it aswell. I have a cichlid tank with sand and I added a otto internal submersible pump and it keeps all the waste suspended in the water until it is sucked up. just my opinion
