kitmini
Hey my peps bred yesterday and this morning I found the eggs rolling around outside the cave . Any idea why they do this ? I have a 4ft tank with 12 peps of various sizes one mature male , and about 40 baby peps and half dozen guppies in the tank. I aw wondering if I disturbed him or whether there is 2 many babies and it is survival of the fittest ? Any thoughts would be appreciated
adamski84
Can u put the eggs in a container with an air stone near them at all ? I've been told that the male can kick the eggs out if there is to many females to breed with
The Tech Den
Either a new inexperienced Dad or something was annoying him and taking his mind off the eggs like other inhabitants would be the main reason 9 times out of 10. More often survival of the fittest is usually where the bubs are competing for food or just can not find the food so they starve. If you look into this a little more you should get a better survival rate too. Where food is in one location then there can be just the left over that they get if there is any left too. kitmini
Thanks I brought him as a breeder , this is his second batch with me . There is another female hanging around in the cave next to him today so I am wondering if this is what has done the ditching . I have made a egg tumbler and have got the eggs in there and they are still nice and orange this evening . Flingers crossed .
Krash
tilt all ur logs back slightly mater. logic dictates its harder tom kick there eggs out up hill. shining torches or looking up into the cave does annoy the male in my experience. egg tumblers are ur best bet. home made ones are never as good as the bought ones. if ur eggs go fuzzy seperate them from the remaining orange eggs... but at the end of the day if u want %100 percent success rate buy a tumbler... i even started taking my eggs out of the caves and putting them in tumblers intentionally, the success rate with tumblers is excellent. always clean out tumblers inbetween batches, even tumblers get bacteria in them which'll make eggs fuzzy too... good luck
kitmini
Thanks all. In the end as I was going away for the weekend I made one, out of a honey jar and some stocking. It worked and one morning I watched the babies pop out of the egg casing in the space of about 2 minutes It was really interesting. Tried to film it but the sun was on the wrong angle.
