Eoi: Fish swap meet style markets

Recommended Posts

hey guys a few people have mentioned this and im willing to organise one to c how it goes just wanting to know exaclty how much interest there is im planing on having it in a hall somewhere in brisbane but in order for me to organise it i would need at least 12 people to confirm that they would book a table

i would also like to have a few of our sponsors have a table set up there will b a sausage sizzle with all proceeds going to QLDAF

so let me know if your interested and if you would like to help out in organising hopefully the first of many great get togethers

a raffle could work but the fee would only b about $10 and i dont think members would have a problem paying that to have the place to get rid of all that clutter thats laying around some peoples partners would even b willing to pay more then that

im not asking the forum to pay anything as i said the venue will b paid for by the bookings of sites and any profits from the sausage sizzle will go to the forum as well as any money recieved from any other means of fundraising

I do not want to put a damper on anything as it is a good idea and would be good for it to happen. Just pass the "sausage sizzle with all proceeds going to QLDAF" past Bristlenosejohn as there may be an issue but may be alternatives - there are things like liability and what not that can create a challenge for making it a success. Beware the fun police...lol

You beat me to it Steve and there are charities that might welcome it maybe even do the sizzle - lots of work involved and planning ahead is a must. Would think it might take a couple of months at least to pull it all together to make it successful and checking that it does not collide with other activities.

I would go if the timing was right but I wouldn't book a table as I'm only just starting out.

I'm not sure what the laws are regarding raffles but the fact that sporting clubs constantly hold raffles suggests that you don't have to be a charity. I think there might be some sort of registration process or certain criteria need to be met. Check with local council maybe??

Might be worth looking at local markets like Eagle Farm, Mt Gravatt or Wynnum/Manly to get somewhere to set up. That way you've got a whole bunch of passing trade and not just the few from here that might be interested.

Just my opinion

Geoff

I don't see the problem?

1, Buy sausages with own cash.

2, Sell sausages for profit.

3, 'Give' proceeds to John.

4, ???????

5, Infinite money for forum.

and a member chokes on a snag ? its not that easy, if it was then why isn't everybody out there doing it,

clubs have a licence to fund raise, :) or they used to,

Why is it any different to selling fish?

If a member gets stabbed by a ray spine which fishing out a fish they are buying from one of my tanks, are they gonna sue?

If they survive they could sue - if they don't their family might choose too...People wondered if Australia would end up similar to the US with people being sued and the question now is easily answered.

Unfortunately it is a sad time where you can be liable for just about anything. Trip over a hose, mental stress - that is why liability insurance is getting more and more expensive.

Running a raffle is illegal unless it is for non profit organisations.

QLDAF is a company therefore raffles are a no go under the Gaming and Liquor Act and the consequences for running one are massive.

As for the fish raffles that were run on here last year, they were very illegal as well due to the prizes being livestock.

To raffle livestock each and every animal/fish must be vet checked and every animal issued a certificate before it can be raffled.

Forget raffles,,,they are too much trouble.
