kikrman
Hey everyone I recently bought a 6x3x2 and decided it was best to redo the silicone as it wasn't 100%. Instead of cutting corners myself I thought it would be best to do it right the first time due to the amount of water it has to hold. Mike (cichlidwife) agreed to help me which is greatly appreciated. I'll post a couple pictures of the build as we go but it's already coming along nicely. Thanks, Luke Edited August 2, 2012 by kikrman
kikrman
Bracing off and down the the base to start from scratch. Getting all that silicone off was very tedious to say the least..
kasman
Good on you Mike Nice big tank you got there too Luke. Just keep old mate well lubed and you'll have a sweet resealed tank soon enough lol.

kikrman
Cheers kasman I'm already onto it. The hammer was only left there while I took a quick photo before we took the front panel off.. Both the front and back panels have been siliconed back on. Not long now till it's full of water! noyakfat
Awesome! I am very envious of you. This tank is the same dimensions as I am planning to have when I next set up a display. Probably a year away *sighs*... And great job getting Mike involved, because you know you will end up with a beautifully finished tank. I can't wait to see the end results. Please keep us updated. Cheers,
kikrman
The last side panel has been siliconed into place and the bracing for the top of the tank also. Won't be long now before it's full of water. This time next week it should be good to go I can't wait!
kikrman
While the tank was getting rebuilt I decided to do the stand as well. Originally it was a standard ARU open pine stand but I wanted some doors to tidy it up and to raise the height a fare bit. It's 90% done just have to stain the doors and ends plus screw the middle legs on. I'm very happy with the end result.

adamski84
yea i realize there is a lot of water which means a lot of pressure the only reason i asked was because i have a 6x2x2 that could probably do with a reseal but ill have to wait until im about to move would make getting the tank downstairs easier if it was in pieces lol

kikrman
A little update. Tank is now on the stand and plumbing is pretty much complete. Just have to clean the gravel today (can't wait) and start filling it up. Hopefully my media still has plenty of bacteria and I can put the fish in pretty much straight away. They're practically swimming over each other in the holding tank atm.. I'm very happy with how it's all come up though

shakey2277
Cheers kasman I'm already onto it. The hammer was only left there while I took a quick photo before we took the front panel off.. Both the front and back panels have been siliconed back on. Not long now till it's full of water! so that's how to support the sides, my tank is the same size but only 1 1/2ft high, and too big for my workbench, I was wondering how I was gonna hold the sides
shakey2277
Those 2 glass strips running across the tank, did you do that for strength or was the base 3 separate pieces of glass??
Mitch86
It looks like a floating base with sides around the base instead of on top , in three pieces to give it flexibility to stop cracking. Common in bigger tanks. My 6x2 has it. I don't know allot about them
