Chris Tschumy
Hi I am trying to find out how long balloon mollies live for. I have done some research via google and the websites differ from 1 year to 5 years. I have a tank with livebearers and the balloon mollies seem to be dying off (about 2 a week) and all the others (platy, swordtail) are doing fine. Any help provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
mthom211
They won't live as long as a non deformed Molly because the deformity squashes their internal organs, they also struggle to compete with food among other fish and can die from that, they shouldn't be sold IMO. gingerbeer
Mollies can be difficult to keep in general. hard alkaline water is needed, and many come from brackish waters.... Certainly agree with what Matt said about the balloon of anyfish making them less likely to live long and prosper!
Chris Tschumy
I'm trying to see if it is worth re stocking my tank with them or trying something different
DeadFishFloating
the swordtails are probably killing them balloon mollies are actually often as long lived as other mollie variants/hybrids if you give them a tank to themselves good water quality with added salt AND a quality veggie flake Any livebearer living over a year is basically not something that happens often in the wild
