Albino L333 in one of my spawns - with pics

Recommended Posts

Congrats john! Very rare indeed and yes there were 2 albino 333 fry for sale in Sydney, from memory they were 3-4cm and the seller was asking a fair few dollars for them. You should grow them up into adults :-)

They will be wrapped in cotton wool and that is the part that freaks me out, just need to get them to adults - only found out this afternoon and at this stage it will be grow them out and see if I can get them to breed and get more Albino L333's out there and hopefully let them keep doing what they are doing and see if more come along.

Do an exact count on the fry and post the ratio. I'm studying fish genetics at uni so i'd be very interested to know what sort of dominance gene you have. Also from the ratio if you are accurate I'll be able to say if its the male or female with the gene and narrow down the breeding for you. :)

That is a bit hard to do as I had 4 logs with males on eggs in one fry saver so it is a bit of a mix and can not do the ratio. So I do not know which male - but have a bit of an idea and there is a heap of girls in the colony...

very cool find techy, its a shame the siblings were mixed with others, i'm not 100% sure with fish, but both parents could be split albino and 66% of the clutch mates can be split albino,

if it was me i'd be growing up the whole clutch and test mating them, but thats a bit hard when you have a 4 logs mixed in,

Hi, good work tech den, if anyone could do it, it is you,

but it would be interesting if it was from stock you had before or if it was from stock you just bought,

but nun the less, you have bred them and who cares how has sold them, they did not bred them, I know that, you know that,

it would be so cool if you can breed them true, Keep up the good work, and keep true to your self, not to anyone else,

They are a bit of a mix in that colony, I have the ones that I got off you in one tank and a pair in another tank and then the colony and there is more than what I had originally bought as I have kept the odd one or two from spawns that I liked or just missed and left in the tank and have a feeling it is one of the newer ones just starting so hoping there will be a few more to come. From what I have found out is that they will breed true from what I am told as I have a feeling that out there some one has a Albino pair - well that is what I am reading into it anyway. Tossing up weather to pair the ones up I have or to get a hold of other Albino's. Saw some yellowy ones and these seem pretty white but time will tell.

I am hoping that it will not be where I have to pop a male in separate tanks and then rotate each female till I find which ones it is - hopefully it will be just a matter of trap separate and check the fry till I find the missing link.

Would like to take the credit for it but it is just mother nature and genes and just being lucky really but thanks for the kind words.

Ha imagine a whole tank full of albino L333 as a breeding colony. That'd be pretty special and world class. I am sure there would be other pleco keepers interested in their genetics, not just the bn ones which everyones got. Hypans are cool. :)

I am pretty impressed too. Not that I did anything - just surprising what can happen out of the blue and when you least expect it. It is days like that, that make up for the bad ones.

Can't wait till they grow and no doubt will keep everyone updated on the progress. Be great having a tank of them but do not want to look to far into the future.
