ado_84
Hello all. I’m a 'junior' member being new to this site but not to fish. I’ve been out of the hobby for some years.. After reading about 70% of all posts over the last 4 weeks or so, I’ve learnt that to be a 'senior' member is totally dependent on the number of posts you make. If someone posts dribble on most threads, that will make them a 'senior' member. Here is my question, what matters - is it your number of posts or knowlege you have (experiences, contribution to the hobby, general know how? I say the number of posts has nothing to do with knowledge and trust worthiness. THE TRUE REASON I ASK is that I’ve read the posts about people not 'dealing' with newbies.. And like myself being a newbie reading some posts is very surprising..(a lot of you are here to deal in and sell fish) I’m getting back into the hobby now but back then my door was open to anyone.. So what really matters when you look at someone’s post count??? - Quality or Quantity. Maybe I could have put it to a poll if I knew how. Hope I’ve made the brain tick.... Cheers Ado 0422445833 ring me if you like after 5pm daily lol . Delete my thread if it offends.. :) Edited August 4, 2012 by ado_84
scott95
to me i like to have a chat to the buyer you can usually tell what they are like by contacting them now if you are worried about becoming a senior member its not hard mate, just try to help as many popele as possible. thats why im on here just everytime you see somthing you are interested in or can help, do it. ive got over 1000 posts now, and im still going. i just like to help poeple so in short, quality Edited August 4, 2012 by scott95
floppingflamingos
Quality of posts. There are heaps of newer members on here and to the hobby, who seem to post complete dribble and seem to think they know everything All of those members have racked up a higher post count than most would in 2 years. It's pretty easy to tell who actually is genuine and who isn't though.
wickkyjr
The reason why a few people don't deal with newbies is because alot of people come on here, and are like a kid in a candy store. Buying everything they can, then not turn up. Post count doesn't really matter, alot of people just dribble on about **** anyway. You don't want a bad name by not turning up. But sounds like you won't stuff people around Also sadly people will steal anything these days, so everyone is a bit cautious about new people. ado_84
hey scott i'm in no way concerned about my 'newbie status' just so surprised at people no wanting to sell to Newbies.. Floppy i agree..
sarah1234
I try not to be bias towards newbies. It is more a question of attitude. If someone is rude to me or stuffs me around I wont be happy regardless if newbie or not. I usually check what kind of language has been used in previous posts before buying/selling from someone. Some newbies can be great, others a complete pain, same as senior members. I like to think I contribute somehow .
raycam01_au
i dont care about post count means nothing to me, and 95% of my posts in the past are nothing but dribble, newbie means nothing, i go by the person, nothing more nothing less
Daharkazangel
I always look into previous posts before comfirming a deal. If there post counts are low thats ok but as long as they are genuinely fish crazy like me, its all gooood Edited August 4, 2012 by Daharkazangel

pony-tail
My post count is pretty low ( compared to some ) but I only post when I can actually be of help - or sometimes need help ( 'cause I am old and most of my knowledge is about 2 decades out of date ) but often what worked then still works now just that sometimes there is a better way . I concur that the bias against newbies is that they often wind up a no show when they say they are going to buy stuff or they are wanting to buy an axe-murderer ( place name of aggressive large Cichlid here ....) with there Prima Donnas (place name of small innocuous fish here ..... ) and then they get pi##y when I refuse to sell them the fish . There are other reasons too but those are the ones I have found most common .
The Tech Den
If you want to up your post count then the easiest thing to do is bump a thread just make sure it is 10 characters... The rumor mill works as good as ever so it is usually easier just to deal with someone and find out for yourself. Have met some awesome new people that have a sparkle in the eye for the hobby and is good to see. If you choose not to deal with them then I am sorry to say you are missing a lot of people worth meeting. As always you will get the odd one that you might find a little disappointing but they seem to be few and far between. Maybe I am lucky or tolerant, but I am happy. Ado, take the good parts of the site, forget the bad parts, don't loose any sleep and just enjoy yourself mate. Someone does not want to deal with you it is their loss mate. goldenswimmers
...I agree ado...lots of posts doesnt make you wise, safe or much really ...but does give others a rough idea of your opinions, thoughts and experience...and thats personal choice if you want to share....each to their own......if every one here had 1 post..you would only have 1 thing to know that person by...and i think it builds a reputation....I respect people on here that I have never met...because judging form their posts they seem pretty clued in...funny..whatever...it might not be true...but they type a good story... There is one thread I am aware of which started with a question about people whose first post was to buy fish, and then moved on to the security question of people coming to your fish room. Unfortunately some people have suffered fish room invasions, and that happens when goods and addresses are freely advertised on multiple forums and sales sites.... Welcome back to the hobby! noyakfat
Personally, I couldn't give a rats fuzzy butt cheeks what the "title" says below my username. I post my personal opinions and experience to help when I can, or simply because I feel like expressing them. I don't expect anyone to take my advice or agree with me, but if they ask for info and I can contribute then I'll have a crack. I also post sometimes to have a laugh, for my own amusement, even if others don't share the same sense of humour... because, friends, that is OK. I don't discriminate against any member, regardless of "newbie" status (because, let's face it, that has been proven many times to mean nothing in practical terms). In the end, I can sleep straight in the bed at night and I just try to treat others as I would like to be treated. If someone needs to have a high post count next to their name to feel some kind of "prestige", well, each to their own I guess, but I think there is more to life. Enjoy your weekend Edited August 4, 2012 by noyakfat spelling oops
fish_hobbyist
well i just have to say that re-regardless of my "newbie" title, everyone is always there to help. I haven't bought anything from any of the members only because i dont really travel often, however the welcoming i received and info is outstanding. I haven't found 1 person that has put a downer on me because i have a small post count IMHO if your honest and reliable then your attitude will show when speaking to a seller/member and thats what counts.
