Robert nxy
Hi all, Im a tanganyikan fan, with everything from gold head comps, calvus, leptos, etc but a Big rookie when it comes to fighters, although I've had it for nearly 1yr. It's always been in a 12L fish bowl. Water changed every week. Its a very lively character lol. My question is what other types of fish can/if any be housed with?? I just setup a 4 x 1.5 x 2 outside comfortably running at 24° with afew goldfish, silversharks and goldspot pleco. Not sure if it would be ok in the 4ft or just stay in the bowl
kasman
cories, b/n..... I have one and have tried it a few times with goldfish and its never worked. Its actually been the goldies that have hassled the fighter.
Robert nxy
Yeah I was thinking that, he's happy as in the bowl. Was just curious
kasman
You can pick up a 2ft tank cheap as chips hey. Somtimes free. I think it would be worth giving it a bit of room. Or even divide the 2fter and get another one But hey, 12L is better than most get.
Anthony93
I've got Common Bristlenose in with my 2 male fighters they are in a 2 ft that's divided into 3 sections and they are fine, i do agree that, moving my fighters from a small bowl to a 2ft, giving them a bit more room is good for them and it looks much nicer aswel
Leigh
I have 2 fighters in my 350L tank... also about 25 cardinal tetras, 15 harlequin rasboras, 4 algae eaters, 2 sailfin pleco's and 1 rainbow shark.... oh and 2 large clown loaches..... they are fine, just don't get anything that doesn't like alot of nice fins.... ie any of the barb family, gourami's etc. Smaller fish tend to leave them alone, and the bottom feeders don't even pay any attention to them so they are fine to put into a community tank..... the only problem you could possibly encounter is having 2 of them in the same tank.... you need to designate one as the dominant male and keep the other in either a net or a breeding cage in the same tank.... until they get used to each other..... mine have been in the same tank now for about 3 months and their fins are starting to grow back only now after the initial introduction fight that occured..... but now they just swim around each other with very few flare ups. Sounds like rehab for fighter fish ....teaching them how to live in a community makes you wonder a bit...
DaniBrooke
I've been told that neons will work... I had some with my fighter, and he used to chase them a bit, so I think depends on how cranky your fighter is! Goldenswimmers- I heard a story about 2 big Oscars being put in the same tank, but divided by glass- they used to try and attack each other, but eventually gave up because they only hurt themselves. Months later, the glass was removed, and they didn't try to attack each other... mind games with fish, perhaps?
goldenswimmers
they get so bored/sick of not being able to fight...then when they can..they are over it
Haku
I have found Cory's and white clouds work well with fighters!
Daharkazangel
Goldfish will eat it in a heart beat. They swim too slow.. I have a fighter in my 250litre four foot. I have several female guppys, few males ( no probs) rummynose yada yada see sigy. Ive always kept fighters in communitys, just got to make sure nothing can hurt them. Fighters are so fragile, no barbs or larger fish.
