goneself
Ok, Finally got ahold of a nice trio of apisto hongsloi yesterday. This morning, they have had so much fun smashing cherry shrimp they have decided to lay in a hollow log. Apart from the spare female, who has now coloured up, and is a spare male. DAMMIT. Tank is 3ft, plants, shrimp soil and a heap of IAL in various stages of decay.So.. Do I leave the spare male in there, or will this turn into a tiny death match straight away? Will the spare eat the fry, or will they be defended fairly well? (I'm only breeding because it interests me and as usual I'll end up just giving fry away, so don't care too much if only a handful get through) I have cyclops in the tank. Like, aLot. Also baby brine shrimp on standby and the algae factory icb outside. Anything else I need to feed them? Thnx

joller
i'd keep an eye on it but most likely the excess male will get smashed once eggs are present
regani
agree with the above about the 2nd male. otherwise you look pretty well set. apistosare usually good parents, although sometimes they need a couple of attempts. if the female goes bonkers after the fry are hatched, you can remove the male (probably not necessary in a 3ft) or get some floating pipe to provide some extra hiding spots away from the female. I usually start mixing some finely crushed flake in with the baby brine shrimp after the first week of free swimming fry, that makes it easy to get them onto flake after the first few weeks.
