what type of catfish is this?

Recommended Posts

I've attached a video below showing my tank.

We recently bought a catfish/algae eater, do you know what type he is?

He is fantastic at cleaning the tank but a bit of a bully.

I know some fish attach themselves to others using their sucker mouth.

Is it possible he caused the lump shown on the side of my green terrors face?

I am afraid it is a chinese algae eater. They have a reputation as being algae eater when small and enjoying slime coating when older. I am not sure it is true. Certainly I am not a fan and prefer others.

However I wuld expect to see an open sore if he was doing anything. I do not think he is to blaim for the dramas...

Siamese algae eaters and flying foxes are much nicer fish IMO.

Yep, gingerbeer is right on the money...I have the big one that used to be in Smiths display in my shrimp tank..eats all the algae in the tank, because he has no choice...spends most of the day trying to bash the guppies.

Btw,I'd say the wound on your GT is an abscess caused by infection to a wound.

Thanks everyone.

I'll keep on with the melafix then and hopefully that will help my GT.

I'm glad it's not the AE, cs I'm kinda attached to him/her too :)

Yeah, they're pretty ugly, if you buy them to eat algae they're not great, and they dont like other fish. But they do love to watch what's going on 'outside',and they have a personality a bit like a cichlid...they're an entertaining fish to have.
