Matmatmat
I have always kept metro on hand just incase.. But also worry about the over use of antibiotics leading to them being rendered useless.. I know they are great at what they do but will they always? Anyhow I found these guys having success with alternate methods:) It's basicly a 3% solution of Epsom salt and water.. 1 level tablespoon (15 grams) of Epsom salt and 500 ml water.. Then use a pipette to soak food:) Here's a link that goes into great detail about it Treating Hexamita aka Spironucleus I've not had a chance to try it myself, but that's a good thing nobody wants hex;)
tuffy_rana
essentially magnesium (epsom) is required for good health in most organisms. hex and HLLE (both caused by heximita) occur when food supply is not diverse enough and or water condition is sub par (vitamen intake in food and trace elements stripped from water). the addition of magnesium will aid in decreasing the noticeable amount of heximita due to aiding in the fishes ability to have an effective immune system and hence ward of the infliction. it has more to do with making the fish healthy and able to ward of the infection rather then treating or killing the organism. a good read for sure and helps to understand the organism and its place rather then using measureS to kill an organism that really is not a problem (it naturally occurs in the fishes digestive tract and free swimming in the aquarium) if diet and water condition are maintained. magnesium supplements are used to keep humans in good health aswell.
