adriancorrea
I'm picking up my 6ft tank this weekend and I'm confused as to what to stock it with. We were thinking of cichlids for the colour's, can you have other fish in a cichlid tank or just cichlids??????? I wanted some schools of little fish swimming around as well as bigger fish, I'm so confused at the moment All input would be greatly appreciated Cheers Adrian
pk333
Hi Adrian, Could you list the cichlids you were thinking of stocking in your tank. Depending on what type of cichlids, depends on what else you may be stock with them, and how you aquascape the tank..
abyss
if you want schools and you want something easy to start with make a community tank, tetras, gouramis, platies, swords ect and plant it out well.
frinkie
Agreed, I'd stick with dwarf gourami's though, the normal ones can get nippy, silver sharks would be a good option for larger fish, mix well with tetras and whatnot.

adriancorrea
Thanks guys I was always pulling towards the community tank as I like the sharks. What sort of substrate and plants should I use. Sorry about all the questions but going from goldfish to freshwater and I don't know a lot about it Cheers Adrian
gingerbeer
Lots of cichlids do fine in communities. Think of south american. Angels, festivum, smarrler geo species, all the swarfs, all do fine with a good school of tetras, maybe some corys, ottos and whiptails to clean up. goneself
Cycle that tank, man. Cycle cycle cycle. And like Lance always says, if it's not cycling quick enough, add drugs.
Fish Junkie
Cycle that tank Should take a few weeks without any chemical input Use this time to research your stock and decide what you want Also make sure you don't then add 30 fish in one go Test your water or take some to someone who can FJ
