Rudi078
I have a Eheim Pro 2228 external canister filter. It is about 4 years old and has never had any parts replaced except for the internal media. It currently has no pressure and would struggle to clean a 2ft tank. Any ideas? Could it be seals or something like that or do I just chuck it? I have replaced it with a new Eheim 2080 but would like to keep using this in a 2.5ft tank if I can get a bit more pressure out of it again. Brisxr6t
Is the media clean.....like the sponge and fine particulate filer? If it is, maybe check your impeller and make sure it has the blades still attached. It could also have some foreign matter built up in it, along with the internal passages of the pump unit. Just do a process of elimination on everything.
Rudi078
Yea replaced the sponges cleaned the pipes and impeller. Haven't seen anything obvious. Do they have seals in them that could cause it?
Brisxr6t
There are a few o ring seals, you could check them out I guess. also, has it been primed, no air in the pump/canister? breakdown pic
Rudi078
Yea I have primed it. If you mean sucked until I had a face and throat full of fish water I must admit I did once have a spare plastic cap I couldn't find a home for so this drawing might help. I just didn't want to go buying spare parts just to find out it is a problem with the motor as spare's for these canisters are not cheap. I do know that the seals(734339) on the filter media containers are very worn but can't see them causing a pressure issue. Thank you

Matmatmat
Does it make any noise when it's running? Rattle ? Gurgle? I'm thinking impeller ..
mq_camo
Pull the impeller out and clean it, clean the magnet and the hole the impeller goes into maybe
Rudi078
No rattle or gurgle. I found the problem. The problem was with the owner, as the clown somehow ended up putting the lid on incorrectly with the outlet connector not sitting over the opening that runs from the bottom to the top. I have opened and closed this thing 20 times over the last few years but somehow managed to screw it up the last two times I cleaned it. Now I feel really smart. Might just edit this post at some stage to say "Yes thank you the impeller was at fault" Thanks guys.
