Kimall
Hi guys I am getting a cod and was wanting to know the best water conditions to suit if someone can help please. The tank has been running with some other little feeders in to get it going and all the levels seem good but the PH is about 8.8 I am thinking this will be to high.? Cheers KIM
DavidTullee
Near neutral would be best, but as long as there are no wild extremes. Declorinated tap water should be fine. You current ph seems high. Do you have calcium based substrate or rocks. Best to try and reduce this a bit with some driftwood, or remove the calcium bearing rocks. Kimall
Thanks for that I just tested my tap water and it seems to be around 7.4-7.8.Seems high but was good for the africans I used to keep. I just got new gravel for this fish because I had white gravel and wanted dark to go with the cod.It just seems like a black rock so not sure if that is making the differance.I have a piece of wood in there but it had not been in a tank for a long time so it may help to balance things out a bit when it ages in there a bit more. I do have tank water here to so can run the tank on that if need be too no probs. Cheers KIM
DavidTullee
Sounds like you have the right setup with the plain rock gravel and some wood. I'd just stick to the tap water as tank water might have a much lower ph and you don't want wild swings with every water change if you swap between tank and tap. Make sure you use a good declorinator that removes both chlorine and chloramines.
