noddy
Hi all Hypothetically if you were to be given some beach sand directly from a beach, what would you do to ensure that all contaminants/bacteria are out of it? I was wondering if Boiling it would be sufficient? Thanks in advance Trav
kitmini
Depending on the beach it came from I would probably just wash it cause I have probably swum at the beach
Fish Junkie
Defiantly boil it ! I would sift it too to get any nasties out And next time buy it ! Don't cost much and no chance of a massive fine FJ
noddy
Already sifted it and I have swum at the unnamed beach. Will start the boiling process this week.

Syndicate
Will beach sand raise ph?
noddy
Syndicate Depending on the make up of the granules of the beach sand it will assist if the right elements are there. Fish junkie I have posted a couple of pics already just of the bare rockwork in the tank. Got to wait for the silicone to dry for a week and will hopefully fill the tank next week and start cycling then.
Fish Junkie
Could do if its got some shell grit in it You defiantly have to watch ph first couple of weeks FJ
noddy
Might even hit it with the test kits to see what happens. I will be making sure it is stable before adding any fish for sure.
