Daharkazangel
Anyone done this?? Im basically too lazy to try and get the gravel out of one of my tanks, has about 5cm of gravel in it. Any harm in putting sand over it? Should i just not be so lazy? Haha, seriously anyone done it? :p:p
adamski84
haha gradually suck out the gravel with a hose each time you do a water change
Betta
It might have a denitrifying effect after a while, you'll create an anaerobic cavity where there will be low oxygenation of the water under the sand & a slow transfer of ther water under it as well causing denitrification which will equal lower nitrate levels, how big is the tank? raycam01_au
I actually used to use a sand rock mix quite often, loved it, set up different types of substrate looks, so yes it can be done and can look pretty cool

Betta
6x18x18.Lol big words much Sorry dude, it will create a layer which won't let oxygen through & the bacterial formed will suck nitrates out of the water for you, should work pretty well with such a big tank, I suggest putting a layer of fly screen between the gravel & sand to keep it separate
