mgr7686
Hi all So i have come across alot of breeders some have gravel in ther tanks. Some have none in there tanks, And some have half/half. I am looking into breeding L397's soon. So my question is should i have a tank with gravel in it or not ? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages with having gravel in your breeding tank ? Cheers
Mel <:)))0o<
I pulled most of the gravel out of my breeding tanks to make my set up quicker and easier to clean. When I had less tanks though I always had gravel. Got sick of having to vacuum it and found it was easier with out it. Doesn't look as pretty tho
Fish Junkie
I find it can help Americans to breed. Gives them something to do while the female ripens with eggs The Male is more focused on that than killing his mate That being said plenty breed without any ! evilpierre
Gravel in your tanks provides valuable media for nitrifying bacterias to settle, there is more benefit to having substrate in a tank than is generally appreciated, a properly maintained bacterial system both in tank and filtration or sump can be just as effective as UV when it comes to controlling pathogens, bacteria, viruses etc.
The Tech Den
With my L397's I went no gravel. Just on the cleaning aspect as they would chew down the wood and was a lot easier to clean and keep clean.
