Daharkazangel
Thought id add some pics, even if they are about six months old Anyway just wanted to talk about my oscars behaving odd as of late. It all started with one of my oscars becoming quite aggresive towards me when i entered the tank (unless his belly is full lol) The poor gold spot that lives with them has coped a hiding, he has to hide out of reach mostly now Anyway a Few days ago i noticed the same oscar's colour has changed somewhat, more brown on the lower part of the tail and back body. I have noticed both oscars clearing a area of gravel but they tend to do this in any tank i place them in and its not a clear patch but a rather wide area. So today i noticed some tail shaking and weird entire body jerking?? Most of this behaviour is coming from my largest tiger and im getting worried this could be the start of them not getting along. Is it common for oscars to be housed togehter for 2 years then fight? Ive seen the odd jaw lock here and there but nothing too major, so far i see no damage done but they are being quite rough with each other. I thought about breeding but neither has there 'gear' out and they dont really seemed paired. Any ideas, suggestions? Tank is a 5x2x2. I will try and post a vid of the behaviour ,plus more recent pics for the oscar fans out there if there is any lol Edited November 19, 2012 by Daharkazangel
Azedenkae
Weird tail shaking and entire body jerking generally indicates attempts at pairing, more so than aggression. In pretty much all cichlids I've seen personally.

Fish Junkie
Oscars mature @ 2 years So you either have a pair M/F going through the breeding routine 2 Females going through the breeding routine (yes they will lay eggs) this is very common Or 2 Males who are trying to dominate each other FJ
Daharkazangel
Put some slate/rock in their tank today, nearly bit me trying to get it in there lol. Def thinking breeding now, reckon FJ is right, im thinking two males but guess time will tell. Lots of gravel shifting and rock cleaning now, poor goldspot can barly leave his log. Also some cool body shaking/quiver with the tail shake and gill/body flare. Kinda cool to watch tbh. Heres to two females hey....
63off
Could be 2 boys who like boys. Take them to mardi-gras and if they jump on a float you have your answer
