PETFISH
ive never kept these before and i have 10 in a 6x2x2 it looks as if there is 2 or 3 males the rest females ive noticed over the last couple of days there are 4 that are very plump and this morning i noticed thier egg tubes down ,if a pair spawns should i seperate them with divider or remove the others to another tank ,any advise on breeding and raising fry would be appreciated. thanks Pete. anthonydeMarchi
No personal xp myself but if it was me id be putting in divider. But depends what would be the less stressfull/is the easiest given the tank setup ;p. Might be easier to remove others.
anthonydeMarchi
hi, just thought of something today but you prob already have. i presume they like to hide when a net is near. (if you can abide it) get rid of the rock and use tubing for them to hide in. be easier to trap them in tubing to remove or rearange for seperation. anthonydeMarchi
another thought on tubing, oven to heat pvc till soft and squash it so you can use smaller tubing thus cheaper.
PETFISH
thanks for your input ,i have removed all coral pieces from tank and there is pvc tube ,a ornamental divers helmet and one of those 2 piece ship wreck ornaments in there ,just very basic ,uncluttered ,but no spawning yet (maybe i was being hopefully enthusiastic)but not having bred these before im not sure how and when to expect ,they all seem to get on very well and stay together in one group so hopefully something will happen soon enough, once again thanks for your interest. cheers Pete. Karen
Hi Pete, have had a bit of luck in the past by removing the dom male with the female/ females that he prefers to another tank. Not sure if this is of any use to you but I have also transfered them to a tank next to the others so they can see the others and the male whilst not having the other male in his tank can see him and becomes very territorial (i found it tended to get him more interested). then once eggs laid or male is taking to much interest at keeping the others away slide a piece of black paper cardboard between the tanks. also it may be a good idea to use just plain terracotta pots upside down with a slit the female can get into, I have also found that they really love to breed in shells (as in small bailers upright) Edited December 11, 2012 by Karen
tutters187
Personally I would put the coral back in your tank, as it helps buffer your pH. The fish in pics look a little small to breed yet but patience and some large hermit shells and you'll be on your way. Cheers Stace
ado_84
Hi Pete i have 3f 1 male in a 3x2 each female has her prefered shell, i have coral in the tank also, i have had two batches of fry this last month and 1 about 3 months ago, i find they breed easy, however i keep losing the fry at about 3-5 days after the eggsakes gone and ther free swiming, so i have not advise on raising the fry, from what i've read water quality is the biggest issue, A
PETFISH
thanx ,i have some shells so i will find them and put in tank and i have cal/carb. substrate and coral rubble in filter PH 8.2 so i guess hardness is up there but will test anyway.
