63off
OMG no. A million times no. They're bad enough in the garden, why would you want to put them in a fish tank?
c0astalb0y
May i ask whats sooo bad about them? its not like they are poisonous??? and they actually look really nice
63off
I have 2 golden cane palms out the front, both as tall as the house and both have 20-30 trunks and they are currently dropping fronds like bast***s. I'm talking 20-30 fronds a week and I rent so I can't kill them. I used to have a place with 50+ palms in it, all dropping just one frond a week. En-masse they are messy and nitrogen hungry and unless you have golden cane palms (which I've now learned to hate) they look like telegraph poles with fuzzy green stuff at the top. You ask what's wrong with them. I ask what's the attraction for a telegraph pole At least telegraph poles carry electricity.
Betta
He's talking about aquatic palms dude, for your fishtank. He's not going to stick a date palm, sebabo or coconut palm in his fishtank, lol
QldAquariumDesign
Just seeing if anyone has seen or has palm trees in their aquarium? Would like to know.... If you like them, use them. It is your tank and you are free to do what you like with it. Bella palms are a good choice if you really want palms. They are obviously not aquatic and will die but there is no reason not to. People buy purple waffle and aluminium ALL the time and replace them when needed. They will last for awhile. I personally don't go for them, but like i said... it is YOUR tank.... nobody elses

grubby
I think their as lame as a sunken aircraft carrier or a sunken diver in an aquarium, and they will die eventually, but each to their own. I have golden canes in my garden, not by choice, but I have removed all the small trunks and just left the choice big ones, makes life easy when it comes to frond shedding time. Also if you use a lawn fertilizer like Eco 88 spread liberally around the base they will green up nicely and your nitrogen worries are solved. We have a dense privacy screen of them out front, which keeps me busy, b ut luckily they will go next year when we put our new pool in and make use of that part of the garden. grubby
Oh blue gravel too, dude there is no such thing as an Aquatic palm, they are just sold as a aqaurium plant, but they will die eventually. True aquatic plants are always better in aquariums. You fish will thank you too.
DeadFishFloating
What to do with the palm seedlings sprouting under ya palms? well putting them in a fishtank for a month or so, is as good a solution as any. many palms grow in lowland areas, that flood for a month or so most years. So seedlings are resistant to short term immersion.

grubby
I like palms in the garden, we are slowly transforming our garden into tropical/Balanese style and I am using palms, Alexanders palms, Foxtails, bangalows and an unusual palm called a Flame thrower which comes from New Caledonia. Best place to get palms is over at Palms for Brisbane, Bulimba way. http://www.palmsforbrisbane.com.au Edited December 7, 2012 by grubby

grubby
Some people clearly do, I for one, just not in fishtanks. Please not in fishtanks. The Palmetum, Townsville - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Id really like to see this and would even fly up especially to see it and do a bit of fish looking while I was in FNQ. Mirage
Just remember they dont do real well underwater. Eventually they will die. If they are able to get the leaves out the top they are ok. I did manage to keep them completly submerged for quite a while but it took very high amounts of Co2.
