speet
Hi all, pretty new to keeping fish I currently have a 6x2x2 with 5x clown loaches (approx4-6cm), 3x common BN 8-9cm, 4x gourami approx 6-8cm and some danios and tetras. I have a different tank with 4 yoyo loaches approx 4-5cm long, will these be OK to put in my main tank? Also, what other fish would do well in this sort of tank? I wanted to get some more neons and am wondering about angels. What sort of plants would be Ok with these fish? I had an amazon sword that is getting eaten, but have been going well with java fern, blue striva (pretty sure thats what its called) and anubias. goneself
Depends on the tetras and danios...small ones will get eaten eventually, angels are ambush hunters. The neons won't last long. If you're set on having neon- ish fish, go for cardinal tetras instead as they look better, get bigger and are hardier. Also be aware that in optimum conditions, clown loaches get Big..pretty common to see them at around 15-20 cm in a decent sized tank. Shouldn't be any problem keeping clowns and yoyos together. Most hardy plants will be ok in there, depending on your lighting, substrate, etc, I'll go ahead and assume you have a fairly basic set up without co2 or plant focused lighting? Java fern, java moss, wisteria, anubis, swords, pongol, valisneria, spathiphyllum etc..all will get nibbled on by the gouramis and bristlenose, but they won't care much. As for other fish in a mixed community..looks like you have the bottom area well covered, maybe look at hatchetfish, headstanders, pencilfish or halfbeaks, maybe even a pantodon or three to take up the top (although the last two love eating smaller fish)...I'm sure you'll get a ton of other suggestions from the others... ozmo
I have a different tank with 4 yoyo loaches approx 4-5cm long, will these be OK to put in my main tank? I had 3 Clown and 5 YoYo loaches (all between 13-15cm) in an 8x3x2 American community tank for a long time without any hassles whatsoever. Both species pretty much ignore on another. Angel in Disguise
I read somewhere that yoyo loaches eat the slime coat that the angels produce, so I wouldn't try putting them together... and the angels would have a happy meal on expensive neons. Go the cardinals, but make sure they are a good size before putting them with angels, I have rummynoses, with some of my angels and they look cool swimming in a school, also I have rainbowfish. You can find some nice really nice colouring on rainbowfish, and here is heaps of different types, and they fill the middle to top part of the tank. speet
Hi all, thanks for your replies. I am going to look into halfbeaks, pencilfish and rainbows. Im pretty interested in the loaches and think the neons look cool, but might look into cardinals as well if they get bigger. As for the clowns, I know they get big which is why I bought such a big tank for them! Im not top sure if my setup has enough hiding spota so will post pics in a few days if you dont mind giving your thoughts on that? I reckon Ill do an order of plants from Liverpool creek aquarium tomorrow arvo too. Currently in Sydney overnight so will get stuck into it tomorrow arvo!! Angel in Disguise
I have a couple of of clown loaches and they have stolen the bristlenose caves to sleep in all day. lol. You just see their red tails sticking out of the caves. If you are around on sunday mornings its worth checking out rocklea markets for plants, Gary has the best plants, at great prices, I can't recommend him enough, I've been using his plants for the past couple of years, but get in early as the best plants go fast and you can see and pick the plants you want. You could also check out exotic pet connections across the road, they had a few different types of rainbows in last week.

Angel in Disguise
Pet city is a bit expensive, ok if you are after something special or a new bloodline, but I find exotic pet connection one of the best for prices, Ray and Kev are great for advice and a chat, they would have to be my favourite fish shop by far, they are super busy on the weekends though. speet
Ducked in to the pet shop at Rocklea you mentioned today and bought 3x Bosami and 2x Goydon rainbowfish...also bought 2x bright red platys with black fins! They look pretty cool, I'm thinking I should have bought some more...The Bosami are tiny, so I've put them in m 2x1x1 with baby peppermints and neons to get a big bigger! I'm pretty happy with my new fish!
DeadFishFloating
brick red wagtail platy eh? one of the oldest, most inbred lines of platy and in my opinion the best! your yoyo loaches will likely become agressive jerks perhaps consider trading them with someone at some stage as far as plants go yoyo and clowns will dig up basically anything so I reccomend anubias on logs.
