Karen
Hey Cam, Whilst convicts are usualy awesome parents, they do have a lot of fry and 3 or 4 gens in one 4ft with oscar and others!!! - I would suggest that if you want to keep the fry, Give the parents a rest and remove fry to another tank or better still put the breeders in their own tank. Karen
Divider will work guys but realise in doing that you are really going to stress your parents as they will be fighting off fish on the otherside. apart from that you will have to buy filters for the divided family... Makes sense to give them some privacy to raise their family and give the other guys the room they need... Edited December 8, 2012 by Karen
cameron
the tank is 4ftx1 & 1/3rdft by 1.5ft lxwxh and what if i put the parents in with the fry?
Daharkazangel
the tank is 4ftx1 & 1/3rdft by 1.5ft lxwxhand what if i put the parents in with the fry? You need a bigger tank or some killer filtration mate. Dont worry about breeding and focus on giving your fish the correct tank conditions. Can pick up tanks cheap on here, maybe give the convicts their own tank, but that oscar IMHO should be in a bigger tank. Not only do they get 12inch but are VERY MESSY. Best of luck what ever you do
Karen
Interesting comment from Les, not sure how it would work unless you are using a canister with intake on one side outlet on the other.. I have a few tanks running off a sump like this,Tho very small bio load
tutters187
Satellite or breeder boxes. Mounts over the side of tank similar to a hang on filter, all you need is an airline + air pump and you can separate the fry in a super awesome fry saver.
