lazybonezz
Here guys just bought my 1st flowerhorn and was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort it is. It has a golden yellow head, fins and body with red centre part of body and belly, it also has black right along top of body and top fin. the guy at shop said it would turn the normal colour but i reckon he knows ****. sorry no photos but if anyone could help that would be great. cheers

Betta-Cray_z
hello there. to me it sounds like a normal ZZ and the most common kind we have in australia the ROYAL DEGREE the yellow you are seeing on the head will probably be the base colour... pictures will help
Matmatmat
Hey mate , if you can't post pics google fader flowerhorn or Jin Kang flowerhorn and see if they look like yours. That's what it sounds like to me. A royal degree is supposed to be an entirely red base flowerhorn that keeps its script/flowerline (black marking down the side) and they don't have yellow on them so I would guess its not that.. hope that helps. lazybonezz
Thanks Matmatmat yes it is just like that but with a little bit more black on top fin, so there you go now i know what to look for when it comes time to find a mate. thanks again cheers
Matmatmat
I think the boys at exotic fish connections have been breeding them? Or atleast selling some so that could be a place to start.. The black could either be part of the fading process ( if it's all blotchy, they start life grey then go white/yellow and get black blotches all over them) or if it's like solid black on the dorsal fin it "may" be female.. Also they sometimes get it from stress.. HTH
