I have zeolite in there and the discus are happy but it still comes up in my tests Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Ph 6.0 Ammonia 3.0ppm I ran a full bottle of nitrating cycle and have had the uv light off for ages .. I have the canister full with matrix and the generic noodles and grit it came with I age my water for 4 days filtering theough macropore gold and put a cap of supachlor in every day Im reading around and a few sites are saying your biocycle will shut down of the ph is too low yet I have mates which run tanks at ph5.0 Im after a sump preferably complete and with a nice colony of bacteria already established ..
