King of the tank is a tetra!

Recommended Posts

Hey.

I have a tank with 3 emperor tetras in it along with 3 gold comps and 2 pepps, all juvies. At the moment the alpha male emperor tetra is the king of the tank and I'm wondering if that is likely to change as the comps get bigger or are my comps just wusses? The tetras scoff all the brine shrimp I put into the tank and it's a noteworthy event when I see the gold comps out in the middle as they usually hide.

2nd question is...is it common for comps to hide and not come out into open water? I have plenty of rock in the tank providing hiding spots and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't remove it so they are forced to come out. The comps are only 3 cm by the way so still very young.

Comps are renown for hiding :(. I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment, have a heap of rocks/ caves etc and would love to take them out but know the fish won't be happy. Mine range from 3-7 cm and all get on fine.

When I had them in with peacocks they were out all the time. They need dither fish to make them feel safe enough to come out. I have ordered some Nigripinnis from Shon which will be great dither fish and hopefully they will start coming out again.

My advice is get some dither fish

Shon is not available at the moment but I'm sure he will be back soon. He has nigs for $25 each and there is no minimum on them so I'm getting six when he's back.

He also has Leptosmas which I think are $30 each but minimum of 10.

if you do a search you will find his lists but OMG there are some temptations on it :)
