Rastinger62
Thinking of buy one for a 8x2x2. The model is a Odyssea CFS-1200 Canister Filter 2650lph + 9W UV Sterelizer. There also is a 1000 and a 700. There quite nicely priced but is that for a reason as there cheap and nasty or do they actually do the job and keep your water quality clear. Any suggestion or feedback on these filters before I buy or consider buying. Cheers
webmaster
the glass tubes inside break easily and you can't get replacements
Supercobwe
A copy version of FX5 but hard to get a replacement parts and not that reliable If I were you I run sump for the 8fter, 3-4 foot sump with Jebao pump from Kenster 3500L/H to 5000L/H would be much better than canister filter. Rastinger62
ok... no worries cheers. My tank isn't drilled but I guess I could do it to run a sump. Canister is so much easier to do but don't have the coin for the dear ones.
DeadFishFloating
for a cheap cannister, why not just go the 1500 lph aquanova ones? you just keep adding them until you have the filtration you want orrrrrrrrrrr............ you could just add an eheim 2260 and be done with it. thing is a tank man Age of Aquariums - Eheim Classic 2260 ( 1500XL )

I wish I could afford the you beau ones but not atm having chrissy around the corner. I run a 2,000lt cheapy on it atm and since I added the rest of the kapampa I added a 1100lt internal and keeps it crystal clear. I just have not have a canister in my festae grow out tank and using internals and want to move the 2,000lt onto that tank and put a new one on the 8ft. decisions, decisions, decisions lol
The Tech Den
Go a sump - you know you want to...and at least you can see exactly what is going on and see what needs cleaning and what doesn't.
DeadFishFloating
The 1500 lph aquanova ones are like $100 each they add up quick 4 of them = 6000 lph filtration for $400 not bad and lets you stagger clean them.

DFishkeeper
One of the many lessons I have learnt the hard way over my many years of fishkeeping is the folly of buying cheap products, especially pumps/filters. Murphys law dictates they will not only let you down, but will let you down at the most dangerous, inconvenient time (eg 11:00pm Xmas eve, don't laugh, it did happen) resulting in the loss of your beloved livestock. Nowadays, I only buy quality pumps/filters, which not only do a better job than the cheapies, but outlast them many times over, providing far better long term value. If you can't afford the quality pump/filter at this time, I suggest either of these options to buy you some time to save up for the quality pump/filter you really want : 1/ Make do with large sponge filters until you save enough. There is nothing wrong with sponge filters, they do a great job. I always keep a few sponge filters going in tanks so that I always have matured sponge filters available for emergencies. 2/ Buy a cheapie cannister, but view it as a short term option only until you save enough, then keep the cheapie as an emergency backup option. Cheers, Doug

Cheers, Doug Doug is spot on there, nothing worse than your canister let you down at 1am in the morning when you in a deep sleep and wake up with the whole colony of fish floating or sinking on the bottom of the tank. Eheim, Fluval and Otto for canister for me along with some big sponge filters but I'm still prefer sump.
a-f-a
I am running. 2 pumps on my system so if one goes the other will back up until new one is sorted out agree quality pumps or anything is better in the long run my motto if you can't do it properly the first time wait till you can do it properly

Rastinger62
I forgot about this post lol. Been flat our lately. Thanks a_fin_affair for your offer. I've drilled before but if I get stuck I will pm you but thanks Thanks all for your opinions and time writing your posts to help My brain is all over the shop atm with school holidays and screaming kids lol. The filters I'm using are working well atm so I'm gonna stuck with that for now. I will sump in the long run after reading and thinking about it for the last few days. I;m going to get some pallet racking and put 2 x8x2x2 or 1x 8ft and 2x 4x2x2's on the bottom. I have got my hands on a 6x1.5x1.5 which I thought I would use for a sump for the tanks and use some K1 media. I thought that would be big enough to use in the space I have to play with and still keep it all crystal clean. Starting back at work in the near future for all this to happen lol, why doesn't money fall from trees lol
