Purpose built Tumblers vs Strainers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys sorry for the delayed response. Am really surprised we didn't get more response

on this topic.

Would love a pic of the wine glass setup Aqua?

And Whilst A - Fin & Scuba both had the same results on dif setups, could you guys expand

on it a bit, - think this would be helpful to a lot of people

Or anyone else???

Cheers and happy healthy new year to everyone

Large eggs like frontosa at 24 hours old will bruise and scratch easily so glass is best. You don't need to tumble, you just have to turn so the embryo doesn't stick to one side. If your robbing after 5 days then you can already see heads and tails so what you use then is less critical. Very fine sandpaper on sieves will reduce scratches. Bumbling up temp to speed development snd use UV or acraflavin.

The earlier you rob, the more eggs you recover. Typically 150+ on an average frontosa spawn.

However, I mostly use glass on other exotic species. Google zoug jars if you want examples. Most cichlids are pretty easy regardless.

Meth blue is very old school! It's hard to find crystal nowadays and I'm down to my last 2kg. Meth blue is good for oxygenation and reducing light but one third strength acryflavine is best for fungus. Sera mycopure if your ever overseas is my preferred choice.

Removing dead eggs from tumblers is finicky imo.

I have never had much luckwith tumblers especially in the days of using nls found the waste clogged them pretty good. I have reverted back to strainers just find them easier to use and better hatch rates. One tumbler I found really good was made from a coke bottle and a tile made in such a way that when the fry were free swimming they swam out and into the raising tank.
