grubby
I hate to be a pedant but this Area should be named Australian and New Guinea natives. Half the island is the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya. Only half the island is PNG. Moreover a huge amount of the Rainbows we keep come from the Indonesian side, forinstance M. Boesmani is an Irian Jaya fish as are most of the Glossolepis and chilatherina Genera.

grubby
Let me correct my inital post, I wrote it in haste. I am refering geographically to the island of New Guinea, 2nd largest island in the world to our north, which was once part of the same landmass as Australia, which is known as Sahul. What I meant was PNG is a country and that rainbows are found on both sides of that Island not just in PNG and as such technically we should call the section Either "Australian and New Guinea Natives" or "Fishes of Sahul the Australasian landmass". As per my deleted post I do not and never will endorse Indonesia's claim to the western side of the Island.
grubby
Remember also its ANGFA Australian and New Guinea Fishes Association, not APNGFA !!!!! That what Iam a drawing my argument partially from.
63off
The idea has much merit. It's not like the fish have any political aspirations or affiliations.
Sclero p
Or "Fish that post date Wallace's Line" if you want to be really pedantic about it.
Barefootexplorer
Or "Fish that post date Wallace's Line" if you want to be really pedantic about it. Shouldn't that be the "Lydekker Line" ??
Sclero p
Shouldn't that be the "Lydekker Line" ?? That would leave out the western distribution of some fish I think ?

Barefootexplorer
Whats that ? It's the biogeographical boundary running down through indo as ascertained by Richard Lydekker in the mid 1800's. It does however exclude Sulawesi. Wallaces Line it is!
