Betta
You should boil it to sterilise it & rinse it to get rid of any sediment, should be fine after that
the German
Most builders yards have snow white sand and it's cheap as chips ..just wash it well and away you go..
kingcasper
oh okay great i was concerned because i thought sand might naturally contain something that would effect the water
noddy
From previous discussions on here it may have some buffering benefits for African tanks but others that use it will have more of an idea...

dasquee
I have the bunnings play sand in my 6ft, it is nice but super fine. Every time one of my cats bear their tails it kicks up a huge amount of sand that goes everywhere. That and I have a picture that goes in circles in the middle of the tank so there's a big hole down to the glass haha
__CAV__
like the german said try a landscaping yard first, half the time you'll find it cheaper and the sand tends also to be a bit cleaner.
Guest 2
If getting sand from landscaper or gravel supplier make sure it's not treated cause it will mess your fish up big time
