rival81
One of my clown loaches is so shy he rarely comes out of his log. Is there anything i can do to coax him out a bit more, other than removing his log? There are plenty of other hiding places in the tank, which is a 4 footer. The clown loach in question is about 4.5 inches. I know they are a shy species by nature but this guy seems to rarely see the light of day. He seems perfectly healthy too. I feed a mixture of frozen and dried foods.
DFishkeeper
Get him some buddies, they are usually more active in a small school. Cheers, Doug
Shaneo707
Clown loaches need to be with at least 3 others to feel comfortable. When in groups they become playful and will spend all day swimming up and down the tank. Just 1 by themselves will fret and hide.
floppingflamingos
i would say three is still not enough. 6+ seems to bring most schooling fish to a level that they feel confident to explore a bit more.
darennkj
And they don't like very bright lights. Check out Wiki, it has an article on Clown Loach behaviour.

aquaholic99
Try putting in other logs. They will feel more confident knowing there is another hiding place to swim to rather than having to venture out and then all the way back. The group will make them more secure and when one stops for food, the others will too until soon they are all stop-starting for longer and longer periods.
