roboat
I've just set up a 2x1x1 with some whiteknights and am running a sacem marathon 300 on the tank. The cansiter has around 200g of matrix and a cup of crushed coral (can't really get much more in there). Was wondering how long it should take for the pH to be affected from the crushed coral? At the moment the pH is below 6.8 which is no good to me, it's got me lost how tap water and crushed coral in a canister can give me a pH below at least 7.5. There is no wood, tank is fresh canister has bacteria but crushed coral is a new addition and substrate is sand.
batters
hey mate is your tank well stocked? fish produce CO2 which lowers ph so does waste in the tank. sand is a pain in the arse as it traps waste if you can see bits of waste build up under oraments or under the sand thats probably your problem. extra aeration will help remove excess CO2 as will plants. bi-carb is a cheap safe way of raising your ph. just has to be replaced with water changes. mick
roboat
Only 7 fish around 4-5cm, the pH has seemed to sort itself out after I added some more crushed coral to teh canister. If it doesn't stay stable between water changes I have some cichlid buffer stuff to help things along, should be fine.
