Anthony93
This is my devils tank he is in a 4x2x2. I'm just wondering what else I can put in with him or if anything. I have some crayfish in with him now which are breeding. Just chucked in a few feeder fish which might survive lol will get some more to chuck in with him. I did have a pleco in with him about 20cm it survived but was getting nibbles on him from the devil so I sold the pleco. Was thinking would a larger pleco be ok or say that's a no no? I am planning to put some live plants in with him on the big log at the front and just a couple on the sides. any suggestions and answers please thanks Anthony
Hellboy
Sorry to tell u mate, there isnt alot to go with him now as to his size and being alone for sometime. Neither plants or the crays will survive long given his size. It would even be hard to introduce another devil with him. If the tank was bigger you may have a chance with another big american but there need to be time out corners. It uptpo u though.
Anthony93
Yeah I thought I wouldn't be able to put much in with him but the crayfish hide so he can't get them. Wont I be able to put plants in?
Mitch86
You could put plants in but try a hardy one on its own first and see if it lasts, I think hellboy might just mean he will rip them up and waste your cashola. I have a lot of slate rock throughout my 6ft tank and my little Americans love it, like one big hotel they all have their own rooms, maybe he would enjoy a nice bug rock cave and a anubias plant on a bit of wood as a centerpiece? DeadFishFloating
I used to setup a small rockpile or tangle of driftwood, and then throw in hybrid mbuna. Dam things are so nimble that with some cover they survive 9 times out of 10. Their hybrid vigor also makes them likely to do better in lower pH perhaps. Then again I only added them as I had no other idea what to do with them, other than just cull.

kasman
yeh iv done that too, thrown small crossed mbuna into my american tanks as feeders. if they dont get eaten in the first 30 seconds they will usually make it long term and just become part of the scenery to your devil. goneself
Big hollow log, too small for the devil to fit in, male jd that can fit in the log. Worth it just to see how crazy angry the devil will get.
Anthony93
He likes hiding in the log at the back just kinda fits but has to go on his side a bit. I think I might make a cave for him but not sure how I could do it. I will have a look at the mbuna.
Anthony93
How would a Murray cod go if I grow it up in with the red devil
Hellboy
Devils tend to be one of hte meanest fish around. Once separated as in a pair chances r not good to putting them back together. Devils r survivers to the end or death of the strongest unless you grow them up as juvies with other fish. YOu could try a murry cod but be prepared to separate them if need be. If you want to see devils in action check there tank out at underwater world. YOu would be amazed that they r still breeding in there and a freshwater croc lives with them not to mention the pacu etc. Got to love the devil
goneself
Meh..it's reliant on the individual fish. I have one in with a trimac, jag, festae and bocourti and the devil is the tank punching bag.. To the op though, smiths have a nice male for sale at the moment, about 20 cm.
