african-cichlids
Hay all I got home from working my 4days out west to find my black calvas had jumped out of the tank (so devoed). Iv never had a fish jump out of my tanks in the 6odd yrs iv kept fish. I woke up the a morning to one of my tropheus on the ground. My water is perfect and always has been (I'm anal about my water quality ask my misses). The only thing I can put it down to is getting herrassed because let's face it we no what tropheus are like towards each other and I no my gold comp chases my black calvas. Well Im so gutted because the tank was doing so good like all my tanks. steve6610
if they are getting out in the corners, i'd cut some foam and plug the hole, i know the feeling, had a couple jds and red jewel do the same,
Betta
Wild Bettas are bandits for jumping & high too, in the wild the jump from puddle to puddle. Most people who keep wild Bettas have glad wrap covering their tank but that might not work with bigger fish, I use gaff tape & tape the corners of my tanks, usually sticks pretty well to the glass, looks like cr@p though
Saffa
tightly gladwrap the top of my wild betta tanks They squeeze out thru the smallest crack

Betta
Why didn't I think of that, the one place I didn't look, lol:lol: Seriously though, the humidity of any fishtank kills any tack on the tape
Supercobwe
Saratoga are well know of jumping fish as well, honestly! all fish jump it's depend what situation but best to have lids of course if they are getting out in the corners, i'd cut some foam and plug the hole, i know the feeling, had a couple jds and red jewel do the same, Like steve said put foam around the hole.I have 5 tanks without lids but I use foam as well so no fish can jump out. Fish Junkie
That's why most of my tanks have been made or I've added a 360 rail round the top FJ
Azedenkae
I just put a plastic lid (like one of those one ice cream containers) over the corners. Prevents the fish from jumping out, and it's easy to move about.

Mitch86
I had a juvi rivulatus jump out while I was working on a filter in the tank. I heard a knocking on my other lid behind my light so I slid my lid over and here he was, he was fine though just took off when he got back in... I wonder if these higher temps are making them hyper active?
Xr6turbz11
I lost a mangrove jack many years ago to this as well. I don't know how or why but he decided to jump so hard outta the tank he flipped a glass lid off the tank. Got home one day to find him stiff as a board on the ground amongst the smashed glass
african-cichlids
Mitch86 that's what I was kinda thinking aswell the temperature but my tank has only form to 29 degrees which is a little high but nothing to really bother Africans tho. But in saying that the higher temps does make them more active so..... I think il just keep the gaps covered from now on just to be safe
