blade87
Oh ok I was thinking black plastick pipe with water flowing slowly it will be behind my shed so the pipe would sit coiled up on top of my shed to gain more heat any one else think this might work ? Betta
Sounds like it could work, as long as the hose is long enough & flowing slow enough, nice idea dude

Matmatmat
I've see that way done, can't remember how it was regulated though? You would need a temp sensor, and bypass for when it reaches temp..

matt-sheeran
i think that may get to hot for them doing it that way.. we use to have an old outdoor spa that used that same method of heating and it heated the water really really well.... mayb might get TOO hot for them
blade87
yeah i will need something that stops it when it gets to temp will only be for winter
goldenswimmers
I heard from a guy who knew a guy about how he was using the actual shed as the heat supplier and using big tubs which then cycled the water out to the pond(and I'd probably place the pipe work underground to keep it insulated too)....the inside of the shed was heated and insulated and maintained at a constant temp(your could even vary this to accomodate temperature drops that you experience in the pond)....other ways I've heard include digging under where the pond will be and heating provided from underneath the pond.....think outside the box..I reckon there are many effective ways to do it if you put your brain muscle to work

Mitch86
It sounds pretty sweet but I can't help but wonder how they will go in the middle of June July when temps fall close to 0 over night. You might have to set up a donkey!

You might have to set up a donkey! This is why I reckon the shed as the heater would work..a little russian hot house....keep it close to the pond so the water doesnt have to travel far..keep the pond covered to keep heat in...bobs your uncle(hopefully not your aunty )
shon982
Any reason why you're heating it? No need if you keep natives? maybe that's something to think about
blade87
I would keep natives but let's face it our native fish are ugly imho.
Betta
Oooohhhh, thems fightin words! lol Don't let Grubby, Rainbowrunner or the other Native tragics hear you say that, hahaha, I know you have your own opinion but it could start a few pages of posts trying to convert you, lol
smicko
If you put empty coke bottles on the surface or the airbags used for packaging the air inside heats up and transfer to the water and the also concentrates the sun to transfer more heat. Also run an airstone on a timer so it's on during the day to get the most out of the air temp and off at night so it doesn't bring the temp back down. Not sure about tempos in capalaba over winter but we get down to about 6 degrees on a cold night and the pond sits around 20. I also have another pond in a greenhouse which stays at 20-22 degrees over winter. Cheers Mick P.s. if using bottles or airbags remove them in spring unless you like cooked fish lol. Hope this helps
blade87
Not a fan of natives I want some colour lol And micko that sounds like a good idea and cheap to I think around hear can get down to 8 over winter that's the only reason I wanted it heated could u use something bigger than coke bottles ?
