Sparhawkleo
I was wondering what people do when the have fry that maybe for some unknown reason cant sell and (i personally dont have the room for a grow out tank atm, well possibly if i move some fish around) has anyone sold them to a pet shop ? is it easy? do they rip you off ??? Betta
Yes, no & yes, most shops won't give you much but some will, all depends on the fry

Betta
I'd give your LFSs a call & do some legwork with a couple of them & have a chat to see what price you can agree on, you have to remember that the shop has to make some money on them too & they generally double to triple the price they pay to cover the expenses of running a shop, hope this helps
Sparhawkleo
yeah even if i get $3 for them i would be happy might try to get a good photo of them and put another add on here maybe

DeadFishFloating
They sell incredibly well...... to n00bs that dont realise how violent they are lol. Most lfs will move them fast and ask for more.
matt_a
I'm awfully tempted to throw you an offer for the lot. Like all Pseudotropheus they can be a bit narky, but they definitely aren't the most aggressive species.
DeadFishFloating
I'd vote they are the most aggressive genus tho............ had plenty returned to me in my time. That said they tend to work incredibly well mixed with electric yellows.
markw
Melanochromis not pseudotropheus but yes agree there are a lot more aggressive fish out there.
steve6610
That said they tend to work incredibly well mixed with electric yellows. seen a couple tanks with these and yellows, they got on great and bred pure, no cross breeding between them and yellows, (not in the couple tanks i have saw anyway) if i had more room id love a display tank with them both,
markw
Okay I am confused I can find both melanochromis and pseudotropheus for mainganoes on the net. They have a melanochromis body shape so I am a little confused. Can anyone enlighten me. Cheers Mark.
63off
I find that the big chains won't deal with you at all. The smaller LFSs will offer varying degrees of assistance but the best I have found is store credit, which I personally thought was as good as cash at the time. Probably best to strike up a rapport with your LFS so that they feel comfortable with you when you need to offload some of those pesky fry. Azedenkae
Well a LFS has to display the fish, take care of them until they're sold, pay wages, etc. etc. on top of having to make a profit so yes they do 'underpay' (compared to selling your fish otherwise) but it's something that's perfectly reasonable imo. It's quite easy really, most LFS would have heaps of experience dealing with people selling fish, so just ring them up, tell them who you are and you want to sell them some fish, and they'll bring on the questions. How many of what, location, etc. etc. Aye.
Psycho74
This is when being a good/regular customer comes in handy. I sold a heap of fry that were actually too small to onsell, but he still took em and gave me more than I had expected. But to return the favour I used the money to buy more fishys! 😃 Regards, Shane
DeadFishFloating
Anything that has the indestructable body shape, angry monobrow AND attacks from below at the belly meat...... IS a melanochromis. They are a good bread and butter fish to breed, IF there are people with mbuna tanks in the area. They have a bad habit of killing large haps, peacocks and even frontosa. If they are becoming a problem I usually add more, they seem to be jerks more often when theres only 1 in a tank. you can also source some good sized CAE, as the whole cant attack them from below thing...... it confuses them nicely lol.Very pretty fish tho, just got to keep in mind their incredible turning circle makes it impossible for most haps to fight back against them. Rooster94
When I offloaded about 20 Demasoni fry, one pet sshop offered $1.50-2 and they other offered $4-5 so ask around

Thorichthys maculipinnis? It won't take all that long. The majority of plebs call them maingano, and will always call them maingano. Those who wish to be more accurate will be accurate. Just look at Metriaclima pulpican. Coincidentally, "Kingsizei" is probably a good indicator of how "Ellioti" will be referred to.
