Xr6turbz11
So I have 3 discus, 2 pigeon bloods and a orange melon. The melon is the largest of the three and within the last few days he's really becoming an a ss hole.. He chases the other two into hiding and if they try and swim out he just chases them back in there, also at feeding time they will all eat for a min or so and then the melon just snaps and goes into all this food is mine mode and chases the others away from food and becomes quiet aggressive. Even hand feeding them black worms he still chases them away from my hand after 30/40 secs. Thumping them with his tail, constant chasing. Sick of seeing my 2 pigeon bloods all boarded up in the corner all day. So I did a bit of reading and one thing I keep coming across is 3 discus is not enough.. anyone else had this problem and fixed it by getting more discus? If I had the funds atm id buy 2 more around same size and see what happens but unfortunately that's not an option atm. It's getting to the point where I'm thinking of making a divider and separating him from the other 2. Do I have a crazy aggressive discus or is it just because I don't have more in the tank?... Any previous encounters with problems like this please share! Nick:D
Daydream
You will still have some agro as they are cichlids and will establish a pecking order just gets spreed around a bit more. This is normal if you decide to add more allow about 70lt per adult fish. DeadFishFloating
This tank was posted earlier by Xr6turbz11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WePH5XHp4NM&feature=player_embedded Its the best discus tank I have seen in ages. My advice is try copy it. Otherwise, a divider is a handy thing to have on hand anyway. May as well try build one.
Fitchdiscusbreeder
Hey mate its normal behavior , getting a few more in the tank will help , but there will always be a pecking order
Xr6turbz11
Thanks for the replies:D. I think when funds allow I will get 2 more discus to try and spread that aggression out. Once they grow out a bit more I'll be moving them into a larger tank too n imo should help a lil too.. I was aware of the pecking order, I just didn't think the dominate fish would be that aggressive to the others that they can't even swim around the tank at all without getting chased back into the corner. He has them bailed up in that corner 24/7, such a douche lol DDF I know right if that tank was in my house I'd be staring at it all day! absolutely amazing tank. Once I get a larger tank I will be trying my best to recreate that tank its just amazing.
Xr6turbz11
Also forgot to mention every now and then the two pigeon bloods will team up and swim after the orange melon and chase him away together, teamwork! Lol.. First time I saw it I thought why don't they do that all the time but I haven't seen them do it for a few days now.
Fitchdiscusbreeder
What size are the ones you have mate?? I'll swing you a few juvies for free being a fellow discus enthusiast )
Xr6turbz11
Fitch that's very generous of you! The melon is about 10/11cm and the two pigeon bloods are around 8/9cm. Not sure how juvies would go with the size of my discus but I'm a discus noob lol
Fitchdiscusbreeder
Yeah they might be a bit small ATM it actually sounds like they have paired up have you seen them pecking and cleaning a spot in the tank ?

But my opinion is the tank is way to small for the number of discus and angels in there. Look at the size of the largest discus, they're huge compared to the over all dimensions of the tank. Xr6turbz11
I kinda thought that would be the case but thanks anyway dude:D. Nah mate none of that, too busy hiding in the corner next to the sponge filter away from the melon.. lol they seem to swim together a lot(when the lights off) maybe they are a pair that would be too cool!
