Mitch86
That's the best part about starting a knew one there's so many options. I love Americans because they can get so big and aggressive, which makes feeding time interesting. With only a 4 fter, Unless you get some smaller ones like salvini, convict or JD's it might become a streatch to put many in. If your after the one or two style I've always liked the look of flowerhorn, gold suam, or red devils. Starting off with little ones and watching them grow is slow but rewarding. Have a look around the forum and see what you like, it's a wealth of knowledge. My next tank I'm looking for a great display of flashes of colour with loads of fish. I think I will go for Mbuna Africans.

smootheye
Lounge Room usually = Community Aquarium with Nice Wood, Rounded River Stones and large Anubius or Sword Plants. Medium Size Cichlids - Angels and Flag Cichlids and Rainbows. Fire Mouths and Convicts or Blue Acaras or Herotilapia multispinosa. Visit the QCG Site - Queensland Cichlid Group Inc Homepage and then the fact sheets for article on Firemouths and Multis.

Yoshi
Blakeee, Do u want some cheap common bn or some LF common / albino bn? I have commons ready to go atm 3-5cms @ $3 each LF are still a bit off. good cleaner fish anyway enough with the sale pitch I have a 4ft tank setup in my lounge room. I did it more as a planter tank with guppies, white clouds, Kuli loaches, couple of tetra and a few cherries... a few months later i added in some rainbow natives, they controlled the baby guppies and cherries (didnt want the cherries to be controlled lol) so i sold them off. and like 2 days after they where gone there was about 20 / 30 baby guppies now. I dont do much work with this tank anymore. just trim it up a bit when the java moss goes crazy. and occasional top up of water, if u want to have a look at the tank and pick up some bn or free guppies to start u off then thats cool as well. i am located in Springfield Lakes. Azedenkae
You might be interested in Elliotis (Thorichthys ellioti/Thorichthys maculipinnis) mate. They're relatively aggressive and flares up to display against each other, plus they look colorful as well.

lgw
I'd go for 4 or so discus for nice community display or a gold saum with a large bn for a more 'aggro' display with clean up
__CAV__
What about some Apistogramma's? they are small will co inhabit with tetras and other fish ie they won't eat everything wont destroy your plants and on a tank that size you could have 2 pairs. oh and they are pretty colourful too
