jpcqw
Just looked in my tank and my neon is laying upside down floating at bottom of tank and breathing heavy!! so im guessing he's going to be dead soon. Problem is I have no idea why this has happened? tank has been set up for 6 months. I have 15 neon's a discus and 9 harlequin rasbora's. I also recently set up diy co2. any help?? Also never lost a fish in this tank since it was set-up.

goneself
It's what neons Do. You've done brilliantly so far, 6 months is a good innings for a neon..they're weak and susceptible to Everything. If the others are all fine, I'd be marking it down as natural causes. jpcqw
Ok thanks!! All fish are swimming around happy so I think you are right. Bought neons at ******* 6-7 months ago for One dollar each, so there is a good chance that they are not the best quality. Daharkazangel
Mmm dunno about that, ive heard cardinals are weak too. Depends on supplier and imho pet shops in general are not the best supplier. Some good breeders on here, even whole saler. Best of luck hey
Daisy
Ive had 3 Neons in a tiny tank that the boyfriend built for me and they have been there for well over 2 months and are doing fine. Tank has no filter but I do very regular water changes and they are loving it. =D And by tiny I mean 150mm x 60mm x 50mm. big_goby
My last ones just died after 7 years From my first tank in Oz. Buy some more water tests. All fish have different levels of immunity. Just because the others are "fine" doesn't mean that they really are. gung-ho1900
If you just setup the diy co2 it could be the Co2 as it can suck out the oxygen out of the water if too much Co2 is released at once or left on over night, also would explain the panting from the neon. The only way to be sure that the co2 is too high in the tank is to have a co2 checker test kit, it should tell you if you have to much Co2 in the tank but most likely the neon was weak at the time and a change in the tank was too much for it to handle.
