wild albino fish

Recommended Posts

I have question - let's say I'm out fishing and I catch a wild albino fish - it turns out to be bigger then legal size so by all rights I can legally eat it, which would be a tremendous unspeakable waste - my question is could I legally keep it as a pet

yea thats pretty awesome. You can breed most eeltail cats in a pond/dam too......... so theres a chance to linebreed, but once again you would need to find out about what the go with wildcaught broodstock is here in QLD.

That fish would likely be worth about $10,000 in London..........

Hi everyone,

To answer your question, yes you can keep it. Regardless of what a fish looks like (i.e. colour) it is still the same species and therefore the rules and regs apply as per usual. So for Tandanus tandanus captured from the wild you can have a combined limit of 5 (Neosilurus, Tandanus and Neosiluroide spp) fish over the size of 35 cm in your possession. Possession would extend to in your freezer, bin or fish tank; dead or alive. If you are purchasing Tandanus then no size or bag limits apply, however you must keep proof of purchase for the life of the fish. Current size, take and possession limits for Fisheries Queensland can be found at: Size, take and possession limits - fresh waters | Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry | Queensland Government

Hope that helps.

Dani

so if we buy one as fry or juvenile (undersize) from a pet store, we must keep a receipt for it untill its dead?

.... and how would that apply to a hobbiest selling undersize breed fry to another hobbiest?

would a signed handwritten receipt from the seller suffice?

Well that's a relief it seems to have recovered well from the bumpy trip home in the esky and is eagerly excepting its dinner will move him to a six by two foot tank once I've finished setting it up - ash does raise a good point though lots of receipts I've been given arnt even broken down to include fish names

Having an aquarium journal that you store reciepts and keep records of purchases is pretty cool as a souvenier. I mean we already know you are a fish geek if you are posting on here, may as well embrace the full power of the darkside and start a scrapbook too. If your reciept leads to the lfs, then they have the burden of showing that they purchased the fish legally. Wouldnt be the first time DPI walked into a lfs to ask about a fish.

I used to keep a similar diary for my snakes that turned into a scrapbook over the years - so such an act isn't below me guess it couldn't hurt to keep my receipts and stuff together in a folder rather then a neat bundle in the center console - could be a dangerous thing to have around if the girlfriend ever found it though
