Setting up a new Aquarium. Used to have chiclids but need a refresher. New member

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm a new forum member and must say I love it. I have a 5x2x2 display tank about to set up. I used to have this size previously and ran 2 fluval 404 canisters, Used to have frontosa , blue dolphins, venustas, a few peacocks and electric yellows and blues. I need a refresher on current products and basic water control.( basically forgotten everything I ever learned lol)

What filters do you recommended to run this tank these days?

What water temp and ph level?

What is a good aerator and lighting?

How often for a water change and does everyone do a cycle before introducing fish.

Any info would be great. I want to do it right the first time

Hey Craig welcome back to this evil addiction.... :hail: so what type of fish were you looking at getting into???...Id look at a good quality canister and maybe also an internal for some good water circulation...water temps and ph are going to depend on your fish of choice...water changes IMO will depend on the stocking levels and what way you go with the filtration and stock numbers...for me a 25-30% water change once a week is good...I always cycle a new tank(crazy not too and the good ol' "new tank syndrome" is the biggest killer of fish going) or just take advantage of the cycled water and used filters I have on hand to set up something new..but if this is not possible definitely cycle....as they say slowly but surely...

Hope it all goes well mate and love to see some pics of the journey

Thank you for the reply. I will probably be putting in frontosa, electric yellows and blue dolphins first and foremost as we love them. In my canister filter I had carbon, ceramic noodles and some foam media. What is recommended these days? Also I used calcium carb for the gravel. My bro inlaw used to used just sand and it looked pretty neat?
