myster619
The old list can be found here Info: Rare Fish List, Breeding attention required!! (Please Read!) PLease note that I did not compile this list. I have only tried to update the status of the fishes in the new list. Updated List July 2013 This list does not say what fishes are in Australia in total, but only the rarer fishes. It also does not include species that can be imported. This list can be particularly useful to bring back the very rare-probably lost species back to less common status. But it will take time, patience and motivated breeders. Common to Rare can be found in shops Very rare to Probably lost are the ones that need some work It still needs work as I do not know everything ... So please come forward to chip in if you have some details. Thank you. goldenswimmers
Interesting..... I agree 100% mate....for example I find/found it easier to get a L.Kendalli and not so easy to get a A.Christyi.....some fish have definitely become more accessible and others less so even getting close to non existant....I think we will need to do something in the future to save a few of these almost lost varieties...but also with availability of varieties its going to depend a lot on personal knowledge and experience...some people know places where they can get rare fish so don't consider them as rare...as compared to someone who has been hunting a fish that seems non existant...so its going to be open to experience and awareness... matt_a
This list needs some serious work. It probably needs to be split into the different lakes, and clarification on what is meant by "rare" "extremely rare" etc. if I went over this list I think you would see a lot of "less common," "common" and "very common." gingerbeer
I think a list like this needs context. Some rare fish are importable, and that makes them very different than a rare fish that is not importable. Some rare fish that are importable are rare everywhere as they are in areas not commnly collected from for a variety of reasons. Additionally a Rare fish can become common very fast kocally by the action of just one or two breeders. Is the list originally a QLD, NSW or Victorian list. trofius
Agree context is handy, maybe we the fish keepers / breeders etc can give feed back. some fishes listed there, like Horei, breed like rabbits, , no one is buying fry.. they will always be rare if not many people want them.. also there are some noxious fish on that list.
