gpodge
Hey (L) earned people, I want to get a bristlenose or L number to put with my oscars. I don't want one so small that it will become lunch and I don't want one so big that it will not suit. Currently my oscars are juvies about 2 inches long, so I want the algae eater to grow with them. Ideally I will be wanting something that gets no bigger than 10 inches... Is there such a thing? Any breeders that have what I'm after please let me know. Cheers Gary
Chris Tschumy
Would not go with bristlenoses. Pleco would be best. Something that gets big enough to defend itself. Common, sailfin, goldspot, heaps of others
giantg
What size is your tank? All L number catfish are pretty much less than five or six inches so you will be fine. I'd be putting a pleco in there go a gold spot
gpodge
Thanks, no bristlenose then.... How big do gold spots get? My tank is 5x2x2
giantg
Mine is 30 cm but that's fine in a 5x2x2.
gpodge
Thanks giantg, I wasn't so much concerned with the size of fish for the tank.... Rather than just the size of the fish, if you know what I mean? Something that only reaches the 25cm is my preference
giantg
The problem is putting small fish in with your oscars. Oscars would be all over a little fish like a fat kid on a cupcake.
goneself
I've kept Ospot bn with oscars with no problem..fully grown, obviously. Thats about as small as you could get away with.
bidkev
IMHO flagtails beat plecs hands down but you will have to move 'em on as they get bigger......................and no shlt like you get with plecos.

As Kev said, best algae eaters around, I have one in every tank. Dave
gpodge
Never seen these in an LFS before, how much do they cost? Are they hard to find?
Chris Tschumy
My local lfs has them regularly. Not much dearer than a pleco of the same size.

gpodge
Well i've bought a 10cm flagtail, and let me just say he loves the NLS I feed my oscars. As for the algae yeah he'll taste it and thats it, he looks good.... BUT ain't interested in the green......bugger!
