smicko
Thought I would put up a pic of my pond and a stocking list. The pond is 14ft round, 1 metre deep and holds 10 000litres. Running the standard 1200lph filter that came with the pool, lmao. Heaps of caves and rock/brick piles and cocos palm berry frongs. Need more terracotta pots. Traditional pond fish; 4x18cm mixed colour comets, couple of adult rainbows, 10 adult paradise fish, tons of glass and red cherry shrimp The americans; 15cm pair brassilienses, 8x convicts 4-15cm, 2x 15cm fenestratus, 10x12cm longfin bn albino and common The Africans; 10cm trio crimson tides, 5x 5cm electric yellows, heaps of adult kribensis The plants; Taro, frogbit, watersprite, lilly, duckweed, corkscew val, thin val, veregated sword (marbled) and the big green thing at the back, not sure of name. Still gets 20ppm nitrate but no nitrite or ammonia, ph 7 mix of tap and rainwater, temperature varies from 18-25 depending on season. Always adding and changing stock and all live happily together without a single death, so far (crossed fingers lol) Please leave comments or stocking ideas. I am thinking of putting a couple of murray river cod in next summer, all other fish will be removed except convicts and kribs as they will breed and supply food. aquaholic99
pool fence?
smicko
Yeah mate that section of yard is fenced as I also have a couple of smaller ones. One a funny side note, I had it inspected and was told I didn't even need to fence it off as it wasn't intended swimming or batheing and their is no access to the yard except through the house. My response was " does that mean kids can't drown in it".Gotta love council lol. Cheers mick
Yodapwnsasmurf
Damn nice mate, how the hell do you catch fish out of it though haha! And does anything breed in there?

Thanks mate, I use bait traps to catch most and a drag net for anything that doesnt fit in the traps. Everything breeds in there really well but only over spring/ summer. unheatedtank
Nice, mate... Do you need heater in winter?
smicko
Nice, mate... Do you need heater in winter? No heater mate and it drops to about 18 over winter. I do have empty coke bottles floating around which magnify the sun into the water during the day and I am considering running the filter on a timer so it only turns water over during the day which should keep it a bit warmer still. smicko
The 'big green thing at the back' looks like Cyperus involucratus (umbrella sedge). Thank you peter. I got it off a mate who didnt know the name. @ the forgotten. Done a full empty and clean on the weekend. Still undecided on whats next. Ive got all the fish that were in it for sale or swap at the moment, so I will see what comes from that. Otherwise my two choices are a good colony of blue eyes and rainbows or throw 25 young murray cod in for the summer, vastly different foid bills lol. Keegan013
Murray cod should be able to live in it unheated all year round mate, check there temperature ranges on google..

63off
Don't suppose there's any chance you have a go-pro and can take some underwater footage? Would love to see into this mini-lake.
smicko
Hi mate I missed that post. I dont have access to a go pro or I would be taking underwater footage everywhere. Just done a spring clean and went native. New stocklist is a trio of crimson spot rainbows and two trios of blue eyes. I am chasing more rainbows, blue eyes and some empire gudgeons or other gudgeons that will be compatible. I would like at least 3-400 fish in their to make a magic display. I had a few of the plants die off over winter but most fish survived. I only have some duckweed the sedge and some val left, I also have a new friendly neighborhood heron hanging around at the moment so a net is in order. I also found a thread that ken done on his pond and I'm loving the upside down tank idea so I am building one in the next few weeks. The only issue is how to hold it up as the pond is plastic so I dont want a stand to poke holes in the bottom. goldenswimmers
I reckon get the murray cod cranking mate....in time you will have a big(BIG!) mouth that comes to the surface to eat little kids....I mean chickens ... I also thought about having a go at breeding saratoga in a large above ground pool....strong netting to avoid the acrobatics....do wonder if you could breed murray cod in a similar set up(might be too small...murray cod are true monster fish)...some very fun native breeding challenges right there I reckon ...
