rival81
I can't find any info on the net but was wondering if anyone knows how many years it takes on average for cichlids to reach full adult size, eg. pseudotropheus acei or other common malawi species. Mine are all around 3.5 or 4 inches at present. Thx in advance.
dem0n
nearly all my malawi mbunas grew pretty quickly (within 12 months) from fry or very tiny to about 11cm (~4.5inch) but then slowed right down. the older ones have all been ~11cm for years. i have definitely seen larger malawi mbunas though so i imagine that either they all grow very slowly after this point ... OR... thier growth is being limited by the size/stocking of the tank they are kept in. i have read a few articles that say that higher nitrate levels in the water will stunt fish growth. rival81
Interesting, i always thought the idea that fish growth can be restricted by tank size was a myth.
tutters187
SO, a saratoga can grow to 2ft if you have a 2ft tank would have been your idea rival81? Jokes!! The bigger the better and optimum water quality, but it can take years for fish to grow to full captivity size.
