machdad71
Just wondering if anyone can help me out please. I have a few plants in my tank. Since I have put them in, (about 2 months ago) they seem to be doing really poorly. The leaves on them have this sort of rusty look on them. I only have a blue spectrum fluro running on this tank. Is this light source adequate. I leave the light on for about 8hrs a day, is this enough light time or do I need to increase it? It looks as if the leaves are being burnt. I really don't know what to do about this and any feedback will be awesome. Thanks guys.

col
Blue lighting is usally around 1400k ,for plants you need 6700k-8000k,6700k being optimal
Daydream
As col said get the k levels right and replace tubes every 8-9 months give them 8-10 hrs light and at a min a general broad spec fert once a week.If you get your light spec hrs and ferts right you will get less alge growth which it sounds like you have at the moment. Kyrin
Sounds like diatom algae. Does it seem a little powder like if you wipe it off the leaves? Also, what plants do you have in there?
BigPete86
If its yellowy brown patches on the leaves it could be lack of iron? Too much harms fish but none at all creates deficiencies in plants. If so I recommend Flourish Iron by Seachem. All my plants go mental with it. I had 'burn' marks on anubias in an African tank yrs ago & fixed with 1/4 doses of Flourish Iron (1/4 dose as 4 anubias were the only plants, I use full dose in proper planted tanks) ever since I've never had a sick or wilted plant (knock on wood)
