I have a male.. He's not huge though.

Thought he'd paired with my normal female as they were inseparable as soon as the were housed together.

Now she seems to want her distance.

No eggs or fry either :(

They are around, but not nearly as common as they once were.

I just bred a pair of regular convicts that have been inbred for about 4 or 5 generations, there have never been any whites come out of any of these spawns, but with this spawn, it looks like almost half are going to be white!

That's weird.

Well, if I ever get the water conditions right and mine do manage to breed I'm assuming there may be a white one or two?

If so, I'll let you know :)

May be a while off yet though haha

try live fish, online, I purchased 2 (unsexed) @ 3.5cm, they arrived @7-8cm, very very WHITE, no pink tinge at all, very healthy fish, they are now 11-12cm. tried uploading photos but files were too large. Doh.

So do you think this inbreeding can cause colour mutations. I have a completly different species of fish, and i have had this happen to me. probably inbred by a couple of gens. Im not going to disclose what species it is, but it is very cool. I have found nothing on white ***********s so i think what i have is very rare. I am going to isolate my white fish to see if i can get a different colour variant of this species.

But i think this thread has just answered why i got this mutation. Very interesting.

Inbreed ur fish to get new colour variants. simple lol lol lol.

I have a really beautiful pair that spawn all the time. If anyone would like to raise a batch of fry let me know and they are yours, I will suck them out before they become clown loach snacks.

Hahaha!! Certainly seems that way.

I've just rearranged the tank they're in.

I've added a JD, so I'm pretty sure there'll be no spawning now lol

There was a heap in Toowoomba about 6 months back. I bought 2 and 1 died after 2 weeks and the other after 2 months. I never worked out why, they left perfect corpses. All the other fish are fine.
