bazz_bne
Hey all, I'm new to the forums and equally new to fish! To cut a long story short, my girlfriend asked for a tank for her birthday. She meant 20L, I thought she wanted something like a 200L....my mistake. The upshot is, I have my own tank now So far I have just rebuilt the stand and I'll spend the next few days cleaning out the tank (bought it second hand). A picture when I picked it up: And how it looks now with a little bit of work: Anyways, I look forward to learning plenty more and meeting you all! BigPete86
Nice work mate, love the 'textured' looking stand. Don't hesitate to ask any Q's once you're ready to start cycling the tank & any Q's bout fish you'd like once the tank is cycled. Welcome to the madhouse lol
nikkybowers
I wish I was bought a 200L tank.
Mitch86
At least a 200l tank can be more forgiving than a 20L tank.
The Tech Den
Yeah the 200 will be more stable and not have the fluctuations you can get with the smaller tanks. Now I have to ask the question and there will be no telling....did you really know that she wanted a 20l...
bazz_bne
Now I have to ask the question and there will be no telling....did you really know that she wanted a 20l... .......maybe not Thanks for the welcome all! There has been a massive learning curve so far and it looks like I'll be going with a community tank stocked with peaceful varieties. I wouldn't mind some plants in there so I'll need to research those suckers too. I'm still reading up on what hardware would be best suited and really stuck with the filter. If I go external, I'm tempted to look at the Eheim Classic range. If I go internal, I'd look at a Fluval U4. Am I looking at the right products and any advice? Not too sure on a lot still, luckily I like to read!

Donny@ageofaquariums
Already a nice looking build! I would sit down with the Mrs and try make a list of fish you like the look of. Or just google for pictures. Once you have a list we can always advise what will work with what. As well as what gravel/plants/filters etc would be best! Always remember...... she may have decided its your tank (to clean) BUT she will likely want some input on what pretty fish go in there lol Welcome to the forum, the hobby and the madness. bazz_bne
Thanks for all of the kind words everyone - it looks like you all are part of a really good community here! Already a nice looking build!I would sit down with the Mrs and try make a list of fish you like the look of... BUT she will likely want some input on what pretty fish go in there lol Thanks mate, You're right on the money there. We sat down and had a look at a few sites with different fish and it seems the only two requirements she had were 'pretty' and 'peaceful'! I'm thinking some bristle-nose, a group of shoaling fish (maybe tetras or the like?) and then eventually getting a few feature fish once the tank chemistry is stable and I'm confident enough in our abilities. I'd really like to get a couple of discus down the track but I understand they're a bit of a hassle to keep, so definitely not something I want to rush out and get.
