Aquariums - The Blue Menace

Recommended Posts

After reading forum after forum, looking at picture after picture of amazing tank set-ups and aquatic life and buying a tank of my very own, I have come to realize that I have contracted a rather insidious and life threatening condition. I was deeply concerned to discover that, not only is this disease not listed by any medical body that I'm aware of but it is, in fact, largely kept secret from the general public. I only hope this message can serve as warning to the unwary so they might know the dangers of dabbling in the aquatic.

I first noticed something wrong shortly after obtaining my 4 foot, 200ltr tank and stand when I discovered I was inexplicably drawn to the temptation of stocking my tank right away - I have heard of this described as "New Tank Syndrome" but never believed it could lead to anything more.

My next symptom was evident at the local fish store where I found significant swelling in the size of my order (originally meant to be just a quick trip to grab a thermometer and some sand for cycling) and a proportional reduction in bank account. This continued a few hours later with the appearance of 8 fish, 2 blueclaw and even more articles destined for the cabinet.

The latest symptom seems to be the inability to tell time as I sit and stare at my (now stocked and running) tank and ponder what else I can add and when, instead of getting ready for work.

As you can see, this condition can creep up very slowly and affect you before you can even notice anything wrong. I would urge everyone to stay on their guard in the face of this newest threat to civilization.

If symptoms persist - buy more fish.

In acute cases this may result in the purchase of 20 or 30 tanks and their associated equipment almost causing bankruptcy and the loss of ones significant other as she (he) finds a partner not so afflicted . Or even worse if your partner is similarly afflicted can result in Aquaria on every available flat surface .
