99AWD
Hey all, I have noticed my two Mystery Snails have escaped.. Will they survive long out of the tank? I know they are air breathers, but won't they dry out? :-/ Can't find the buggers anywhere! Cheers Edited July 7, 2013 by 99AWD
BigPete86
Yeah they'll dry out within a few hrs, maybe less depending on temp & humidity. Found a snail myself yrs ago under the tank stand, pretty dry but it lived, no idea how long it was out. Was the same time I had a river biotope with a good mix of small-med size fish & a few diff yabbies & until I snapped some plastic cd cases to fit gaps & duct taped them in place to cover the corner gaps on lids in between intake pipes, air hoses, leads etc. used to wake up to the sound of *click*click*click*click*click*click to get up & find a yabby going for a wander lol. Was bout 14 at the time & was even funnier to wake up to my mum screamin "PETE!!! Why is there a friggin creepy crawly in my room!?!?! Get this ...... thing outta here!!!" 99AWD
I found them both! One is definitely still alive as he's already super active again back in the tank. The second ones shell seems really thin. He hasn't moved much yet, but I'm hoping he's still alive! Haha, I can only imagine that BigPete!! I want a snake, but can't until I'm out in my own place. Mum's petrified of them
goneself
They always travel when they want to lay eggs, lids are a must have with em.. my dog Loves it when one manages to escape. Yummy.

BigPete86
Glad ya found em not only for the snail's sake but for your nostrils aswell, if they're decent size then you find em after a wk or so by following ya nose... Easy way to get kicked out is get a snake lol, plenty of dramas havin a snake whilst livin with mum lmfao. I scared my mum & lil sis with snakes as a youngster, grew up in the bush & have never been worried bout em but my mum & lil sis, both farm girls, love animals but hate snakes, spiders, frogs etc. Conflicted farm girls lol. Had a pet blind snake, lil 'Bat' (as in blind as a ...), he was very crafty. Even figured out how to wedge his head (or tail, not sure how he did it) out at just the right angle to slip the latch on his lid & somehow always found his way to mum's room until I specially built him a lid...
